Many of our customers find us because of their frustrations with their candle burning experiences from other companies. This quote below from Elizabeth, a blogger who loves to try new products said the following (a common lament we get from converts to our candles...):
By the Bay Botanicals candle line came about when so many people were astonished that we didn't make candles along side potpourris, room sprays and other scented gifts we offered. Our response was why make candles when the candle industry is oversaturated? It was when people said, "because the candles they buy often produce too much soot (to the point of staining their walls and costing time and money to clean and paint the area) or the scent fades fast, to the point of some even having experiences that the candles exploded when light causing lots of damage to furniture. It was clear, from our customers feedback, they didn't have an alternative choice. This made By the Bay Botanicals owner Michelle Sholund wonder why are so many candle companies so fragrance focused that they fail to hear the complaints of their customers and not do anything about it. This motivated Michelle to not only find out why candles produce soot and is it possible to fix it among the other complaints presented to her.
After 6 months of research and another 6 months of experimenting making her own candles with different waxes, wicks and oils, Michelle Sholund, was able to crack the code, making a better candle that didn't sacrifice color or scent in order to meet that goal. The answer was using palm wax along with other natural ingredients, like 100% cotton core wicks. Today, By the Bay Botanicals candle line Destination Scentsations is growing having made over 7,000 candles by hand both for sale at the company's retail location at 7 East Main Street in Westminster, MD, via the company's e-commerce website, and through private label/custom candles sales to other retailers and customers for wedding favors and as corporate gifts in helping them with branding and marketing.
"There is no better joy than seeing a customer's face light up when they see the night and day difference the quality of our products compared to other brands, " says Michelle Sholund. " From the unusual shaped jars - which aids in a better burning candle to even the scents and the all original travel inspired and named scents to the company uses for it's candles, it makes me feel good. We've never been in it for the money, but to really make a difference making for a better candle burning experience for all without cutting corners or charging an arm and a leg. Best yet we are able to make them in the USA - Westminster, MD. We owe it to our fans for the milestones we have achieved thus far and continue to rely on them to help us grow. We'd love to hire more people and create more fun and exciting destination inspired candles, but it is up to our fans to help us get there, in not just buying the candles, but spreading the word too."
To help spread the word, fans can follow the company via Facebook to stay in the know about company news, contests, read honest testimonials from like minded candle lovers and so much more.
