Robins are singing. Baskets are full of chocolate candies... and marshmallow peeps! Trees are full of blossoms. Spring is finally here! With winter behind us, there is must to look forward to - Easter, Spring Break, and new beginnings. Here at By the Bay Botanicals we're busy working on new projects as well as Spring cleaning and organizing.
One thing you might notice in the next few days, are updates to the art fairs that we'll be involved with. While many of our handmade products are getting into shops, we will remain present at art fairs and Spring as it is a good time for that and love interacting with our fans at shows as it is one of the best ways to meet people and get our products directly in peoples hands to smell and touch and purchase. We will be at a few shows such as Wine in the Woods in Columbia, MD this May and the Somerset Strawberry Festival in June. As we get confirmation letters the info will be posted on our Calendar page. We encourage all who are interested in our candles to come out and support us - even if it is just to say hi. We really want to get put faces with the names we have emailed or tweeted with and think you may find the experience at these shows we sell at truly fun especially with family and friends. You never know, you might find a great Mother's Day gift, something to hang on a bare wall, or great excuse to get out and enjoy the fresh air and warm weather.
In addition to art fairs we're also still working on updating our website and one of the things we've just added to our site is a way to sign up for a monthly newsletter. It is a simple newsletter that will have interesting candle facts, travel website links and tips, news about up coming shows, info on new candle scents we'll be coming out with, coupon offers, and other By the Bay Botanicals info. The once a month newsletter is free! Signing up for the newsletter also allows us to deliver our info to you vs. trying to find it yourself or get behind in news we have to offer. Sign up today on our Home Page.
In speaking of new, did you hear that we have a candle collection called The Hawaiian Collection? We have decided to start making a few candle collections based on various popular travel locations. Hawaii being THE biggest tourist destination in the world, we couldn't resist starting here. With the collection you'll find 4 different candle scents - North Shore Surfer's Paradise, Waimea White Gardenia, Waikiki Teakwood Tiki, and Maui Pineapple Plantation. All smell out of this world and true to nature. They come in the following sizes - Weekender (12 oz.), Vacation Getaway (27 oz.), set of 4 tea lights and just this week all four scents are available in 3 oz. candles - sold together for $15.00. This will help in the decision making process of which one to choose as now you can afford to try all 4! The Hawaiian Collection is available on this website, just click on any of the 4 scents to learn more.
Lastly, we are proud to announce our candle of the Month for April is Williamsburg Wisteria. A wildly popular candle that is only offered for a limited time is ready for the taking. Inspired by the wonderful sites and sounds of Colonial Williamsburg, this wisteria candle will surely delight all with its heavenly aroma often described as a mixture of hyacinths and lilacs. All candle of the months are sold at $1.00 off their original retail price and ready to be snatched up today!

There is always something new going on with By the Bay Botanicals. Today, and this week for that matter, we're ordering new oils, trying some new blended fragrances and testing these oil mixes in our candles. There is a bit of a process with this. While some candle companies can list "so what haven't we done yet, that we should do when it comes to different and unique fragrances". With By the Bay Botanicals we start with what destinations haven't we covered and then ask, what does that destination smell like? For instance, you just fly to a destination, get off the plane and breathe in the air - what does it smell like? This is how we first go about creating our candles. The destination is first, then the aroma. For those who don't know our candle line, Destination Scenstations is all about the destination - capturing the memories, put it in scent form so you can enjoy the "vacation" any time you want. This is why many people say, its like taking a vacation in a jar. Currently we offer over 25 varieties of destination inspired fragrant palm wax candles, but we aren't stopping there. As we brainstorm different ideas for future scents, we write down those ideas then work with our oil suppliers to come up with possible matches with the scents to the destinations. Our current goal is to work on 3-4 different sets of aromas for a Hawaiian, an Old West, and a Caribbean candle collection. With Hawaii alone there are dozens of unique fragrances - from pineapple to plumeria. Considering all the possible combinations with the goals we have for each type of collection, we have a lot of testing to do. Testing current oil samples rating their potency when burned and working up some fun names for these destination inspired aromas can be fun - the creative process always seems to be, but there is a lot of work to it too. By the end of January we should have our list narrowed and in February we'll announce those results.
Just for fun, Care to take a stab at what fragrances you think we'll be using in the Hawaiian, Old West, and Caribbean collections? It would be neat to see if bright minds think alike. Use the comment button below and feel free to share on twitter and facebook, ok? - Michelle, By the Bay Botanicals
